A Tribute to Bishop Joseph John Gerry, OSB

On July 2, 2023, Bishop Joseph John Gerry, OSB, bishop emeritus of the diocese of Portland, Maine in the United States, passed away at St. Anselm’s Abbey in Manchester, New Hampshire.

In 1991, Bishop Gerry was named a member of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue by Pope St. John Paul II and he served in that capacity until 2000. He labored to further interreligious dialogue in the United States, being especially involved in monastic interreligious dialogue.
